Parent Organization: Student Activities Commission
The Johns Hopkins University Band, founded in 1921, is the oldest and longest-running instrumental group on the Homewood campus. "JHU Band” is the parent name for a variety of different ensembles:
The Wind Ensemble plays symphonic and orchestral pieces at formal concerts in Shriver Hall twice a year. It's more relaxed than the Hopkins Symphony Orchestra, and gives players a chance to experiment with different themes and styles of music in a large group.
[Current rehearsal times: Sun+Wed 6:30pm, Mattin SDS Room]
The Pep Band provides music at all football and lacrosse games, home AND away. We've only missed 2 games since 1921! It's a great opportunity to travel around the east coast for free and cheer on our Blue Jays.
[Current rehearsal time: 8:30pm, Mattin SDS Room]
The Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Band perform stage and jazz pieces on numerous occasions throughout the year. Jazz concerts are usually packed! Auditions are required for placement, but not membership.
[Rehearsal times vary, please email for more info]
The Flute Choir and Percussion Ensemble are more relaxed, flexible groups, dependent on interest during a given semester. At times we've even had enough sectional interest for a brass ensemble!
All instruments always welcome!
